Hillcrest hospital takes chronic sick patients who need nursing care referred from hospitals in the entire province of KwaZulu-Natal and outpatient service for chronic medication and rehabilitation.

• Hillcrest Hospital has a clinic for repeat chronic medicines for patients over 50 years of age only. The clinic is held every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday between 13:00 & 15:00 only. The outpatient numbers are restricted to 350 patients in total.

The reasons for these constraints are as follows:
The hospital does not have an outpatient budget and uses the inpatient budget.
The outpatient facility at Hillcrest Hospital consists of 1 small waiting room (15 seats max.), 1 CPN, 1 ENA and 1 sessional doctor.
