Bursaries for Research Study - Medical Research Council

 

A. Who can apply:

The MRC awards scholarships to suitable candidates who:

  1. have recently obtained their Bachelors degree in Dentistry
  2. are registered with the Health Professions Council
  3. should also have completed their community service
  4. must show promise in a specific field of research, and undertake a year's work within an established research environment in SA.

Scholarships are awarded for one year at a time, and successful applicants may apply for renewal of the scholarships for a second and third year, which will be considered in competition with all other applications.

 

Preference for renewals will be given to those applicants that have registered for a MSc Medical Science, PhD or MD degree.

 

Closing date: 30 April annually - for return of completed applications.

 

B. Who can apply:

The MRC has a category of re­search training scholarships to create an opportunity for nurses and the allied health professionals, to undertake full-time research training in an established research environment in SA. Applicants must be in possession of an Honours degree or equivalent. Tenable for one calendar year at a time.

 

Successful applicants may apply for renewal of the scholarship for a second and third year, which will be considered in competition with all other applications, and preference for renewals will be given to those applicants that have registered for a Masters degree or a Research doctorate.

 

Closing date: 30 September - for return of completed applications.

 

C. Who can apply:

Research training scholarships for medical doctors are available to persons who have recently obtained a Bachelors degree in Medicine, and are registered with the Health Professions Council.

 

Must have also completed their internship and community service, and be interested in pursuing full-time training in an established research environment in SA. Tenable for one calendar year at a time, and successful applicants may apply for renewal of the scholarships for a second and third year, which will be considered in competition with all other applications. Preference for renewals will be given to those applicants that have registered for a MSc Medical Science, PhD or MD degree.

 

Closing date: 30 June annually -=- for return of completed applications.

 

D. Who can apply:

Research training posts for medical specialists. In order to create opportunities to stimulate interest, training and experience in research, the MRC makes posts available for full-time involvement in research to medical specialists under the age of 40. The award must be supple­mented by the host institution to a market-related remuneration package.
