The Organ Donor Foundation is a non-profit charity, established in 1988.  Our aim is to address the critical shortage of organ and tissue donors in South Africa through regular awareness and education campaigns aimed at the public and medical professionals.  Currently there are over 4,300 people awaiting organ and cornea transplants. Sadly, less than a third of these people will receive transplants this year. We receive no funding from Government and rely entirely on events, corporate sponsorship and individual donations. Please register yourself as an organ donor today so that you can provide hope for people awaiting life-saving organ transplants. Remember to let your family know about your decision, as they need to give their permission to have your organs removed.   Registering as a donor is free and there will be no cost to your next-of-kin after your death.  By becoming an organ donor, you can save up to seven lives when you die. Your heart, kidneys, pancreas, liver and lungs can be used to give seriously ill people the chance to live a long and healthy life. Additionally, you can also help up to 50 others by donating tissues such as corneas, heart valves, skin and bone.
