Clinical Psychologists - Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

In this practice a broad range of difficulties are treated. I have a special interest in working with children and families.

Adults are seen for anxieties (including generalised anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, post traumatic stress), depression (including post-natal depression and grief work); work stress, relationship difficulties and personal growth work.

Supervision (for CPO points) is available to counsellors and other psychologists.

Children are referred with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety (school refusal, phobias), depression, behavioural problems (aggression, lying, stealing), poor academic progress, (learning difficulties, concentration difficulties), trauma (divorce, crime, loss), other life changes.

A thorough assessment provides the necessary information for an appropriate intervention. All assessments of children (pre-adolescents) include interviews with the parents, the child, the schoolteacher (if appropriate) and other therapists involved with the child. A feedback session outlines the difficulties identified and allows a forum for discussion of treatment options including play therapy, parent counselling and filial therapy.

Filial therapy training for parents is offered as a treatment option as well as a parent-child relationship enrichment option. Filial therapy involves the training of the parent to use basic child centred play therapy skills in order to conduct special play sessions at home with her/his own child.

A primary diagnosis of alcoholism, drug addiction, and anorexia can not be treated in this practice, as these require specialised interventions. However, I would be happy to facilitate referrals to appropriate organisations.

My approach is eclectic. I have been trained to use various therapeutic modalities and have the belief that the correct choice of treatment modality for each individual is essential to ensure a good response to treatment.

The practice is open from 8:30 to 17:30 daily. Medical Aid Rates are charged. Most medical aids accept direct account submissions from this practice.
