Prince Mshiyeni a regional hospital in eThekwini. It is a 1200 bedded facility that serves the surrounding area, up to and including part of the Eastern Cape.


The hospital offers health services to the community at regional and district levels and has 17 clinics attached. The hospital is one of the sites for MTCT and has the largest crisis centre - now called the 'Place of Comfort'.

Prince Mshiyeni memorial hospital has been designated as a District and Regional hospital.


Services provided at Regional level of care use the expertise of general specialists for managing inpatients and outpatients referred from district hospitals. Services provided at District level of care provide non-specialist services to patients who are referred from our local clinics for inpatient and outpatient generalist care.

Antiretroviral therapy

This clinic is located in wardC3, clients are checked for CD4, if it is under 200 they qualify for ARVs They are then educated about ARVs their actions and side-effects. This clinic operates daily.

Blood Transfusion Service


This department offers a 24 hour service and the following patients will be seen by the doctor on duty:

Patients with a referral letter of follow up appointment

Patients referred from the Primary Health Care Clinic

All assault victims and MVA cases


Comfort Centre
This centre cares for cases of sexual assault and domestic violence. It is a 24 hour centre with a multidisciplinary approach. There is a satellite police station within the centre for opening and reporting of cases of sexual assault, rape and domestic violence


Dental Facilities
Dietician This department provides the best nutritional support and counselling for all inpatients and outpatients that visit this institution. They are available from Monday to Friday, 7h30 to 16h00

The orthopaedic outpatient department of Prince Mshiyeni Memorial hospital is committed to providing an efficient orthopaedics service to clients.


Paediatric services
Is committed to achieving optimal health status for all children passing through the paediatric service. There are a number of clinics available to meet the various needs of the children. This service also has an outpatient that operates 24 hours.


Primary Health Care

We are committed to providing high quality care based on the Primary Health Care approach, within the district health system by empowering our communities and staff, through implementation of the Batho Pele principles with creative and efficient utilization of all available resources. Primary health care operates from Monday to Friday only from 07h00 to 16h00.


Pharmaceutical Services

The Pharmacy department is committed to providing a comprehensive pharmaceutical service in collaboration with hospital services to all patients of Prince Mshiyeni Memorial hospital and affiliated clinics based on the National Drug Policy and Pharmacy regulations and in accordance with the Batho Pele principles. This department operates Monday to Friday from 07h30 to 16h00.




Social worker

The social workers at Prince Mshiyeni are committed to providing a quality and comprehensive psycho-social medical social work service to all patients of the catchment population, including their families and caregivers, using a multi-disciplinary approach and provide student training programme in accordance with the respective universities. This department operates from Monday to Friday from 07h30 to 16h00.
