Operation Hunger

Operation Hunger is a South African registered not-for-profit organization, Registration No. 001-306 NPO. It is concerned with the problems of chronic malnutrition and poverty.

Between 1980 and 1993, Operation Hunger assisted thousands of South Africans faced with the threat of hunger arising from poverty, drought and the policies of apartheid. Operation Hunger accomplished this by implementing broad-based feeding programmes and initiating self-help projects across the country.

In 1994, Operation Hunger initiated an internal review process that reconsidered the organisation’s future role in South Africa. Operation Hunger decided to build upon the strengths of the organisation’s work in the past and sharpen its focus to address the problems of chronic and acute malnutrition in a more comprehensive manner.
